So, look. The CFB world has changed. It’s fine to do a cliche deal with a car dealership now. It’s fine to rep Donatos’ new grilled cheese pizza. I’m not sure I’m interested, but it might be fun to find out what the hell all these players are doing, how much money they’re making, etc. At least NIL is a workable acronym that seems to have some stickiness. Doesn’t seem like you can re-name it now.
Anyways, some players are going to make some money now, which is fine. So, after a summer of thinking about getting a new job and MAYBE actually doing that, I’m ready to put my thoughts to paper for the 4 of you that read this. The first game is Thursday. At Minnesota. Can Minny pull off the upset? Can CJ Stroud step into the Justin Fields shoes and get it on? Some of the punditry I’ve mainlined into my brain suggests the following:
- We have the best wide receivers. In the world. Marvin Harrison Jr looks like Jerry Rice and he’s our 4th or 5th or 7th guy.
- CJ should be OK because, you know, we have the best receivers.
- The running backs are unproved but talented. And we’ve got Master Teague as a guy who is a fantastic backup running back. I don’t know anyone else’s name, but they’re all “Guy Who Will Start Over Master Teague, Hopefully” in my brain.
- Our O Line might be great.
- Our D Line might be pretty good.
- Our DB’s might be pretty good.
- Our Linebackers are garbage and might as well lay down on the field with their pacifiers. Our guy named Tuf went pro, so everyone remaining must be garbage.
OK. Back in the saddle. I’m a writer I can do this.
Warmest regards.
Eric
