The Chris Olave Appreciation Post

The Minny Game

The Bucks didn’t play great but ended up with 45 points. Plus a victory. Remember when we didn’t play great in 1994 and we’d lose 17-10 or some bullshit? This is better. OK, let’s move on.

The QB.

CJ Stroud, with 294 passing yards in his first game has shot up to 44th all-time in that stat, one spot ahead of a guy named Joe Burrow. 9140 yards behind JT Barrett. What about touchdowns, you ask?? Tied for 36th with Rod Gerald, which can’t be a real name. And 1 behind Kirk Herbstreit!

Some quick math… 11 games left in the regular season… 4 per game… so he’ll be at 48 by the end of the season. Then add 4 more for the B1G Championship Game and then 4 more for each of the 2 playoff wins. So he’ll hit 60! Tied with Joey B for most TD passes all-time in one season. From an OSU perspective (and, let’s be honest, is there any other kind?) he’d then be in 3rd place behind JT (104 passing TD’s… a STARTLING statistic), and Justin Fields, who had 63 but would have ended up at 75 or something in a non-Covid world.

The Receiver

I know Garrett Wilson is also fantastic, but this is an appreciation post for Chris, not Garrett. I’m sorry Garrett. Keep doing great things. Anyway, Chris O, when he’s not hawking pizza, is catching the ball and running very quickly and elusively. Against Minny last Thursday, Chris had 4 catches for 117 and 2 TD’s.

In yards, this took him from 19th all-time to 13th. In just one game he passed Parris Campbell, Jeff Graham, Ken-Yon Rambo, Brian Robiskie, and Dane Sanzenbacher. Looking forward, let’s say Chris gets 1000 more yards. 11 games + a B1G Conf. Championship seem realistic. That would take him to FIRST PLACE ALL TIME… a few yards ahead of David Boston. Seems possible, right? With 100 yards against Oregon on Saturday, Chris would pass Joey Galloway, Ted Ginn Jr, and Devier Posey. Wow Devier Posey had a ton of yards!!

Let’s look at touchdowns. Against Minny, Chris’s 2 TD’s brought him into a tie with Brian Robiskie for 5th all-time – 24 TD’s. 10 more TD’s this season seems reasonable, which would tie him with Dave Boston for first place. Just 7 would vault him to 2nd, passing Santonio Holmes, Cris Carter, and Devin Smith.

Receptions. KJ Hill’s 201 career receptions probably isn’t attainable. You can’t have a lot of catches when you score every time you touch the ball (math). But let’s say 50 catches the rest of the way? That takes Chris to 4th overall behind Hill, Boston, and Carter. What I’m trying to say is that Chris Olave is very good and when people are awesome at things you enjoy, it can be fun! But sometimes you’re bitching about how our defense should have been better and you fail to appreciate things, you know?

Analysis of the Next Game

We should really try an score more points than the Ducks. Like we did in the first ever college football playoff championship game (maybe you’ve heard of it). But more importantly, everyone should just try and have a good day.
